Aerogels: a foam alternative.
Author(s) : HERRMANN G. H., MIELKE M. F., ZIEGLER B. D., TEICH F.
Summary
Aerogels offer a thermal performance unattained by any other class of material. Big scale industrial processing of the material has proven possible. Growing interest for application of aerogels in the home appliances manufacturers industry (boilers, refrigerators, freezers, ovens, etc) may be expected, as excellent quality of aerogel fillings bring remarkable 20% improvement over conventional foamed insulation systems in terms of energy consumption. Additional optimization could be expected by application of vacuum techniques.
