Summary

MODERN DEVELOPMENTS IN MICROPROCESSORS AND MICRO-ELECTRONICS HAVE BROUGHT COMPUTERS WELL WITHIN THE RANGE OF ECONOMIC APPLICATIONS TO A WHOLE RANGE OF SITUATIONS PARTICULARLY IN THE FIELD OF CONTROL. THIS PAPER WILL EXAMINE THE ROLE OF THE COMPUTER IN THIS FIELD AND WILL INDICATE HOW MANY OTHER SYSTEMS AND ACTIVITIES IN BUILDING HAVE SIMILAR RELATED NEEDS AND HOW THE EXISTENCE OF A COMPUTER CAN GIVE A BENEFICIAL ADVANTAGE WHEN EMBRACING THE WHOLE RANGE OF WORK AND IT IS ONLY A SHORT STEP TO ACHIEVE A BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEM.
