Summary

TWO APPLICATIONS ARE CONSIDERED: RESIDENTIAL AIR CONDITIONING AND DRYING PROCESSES. A) THE CONVENTIONAL AIR CONDITIONING PROCESS IS COMPARED WITH AN INNOVATIVE ONE, BASED ON AIR DEHUMIDIFICATION IN A WASHING TOWER WITH A LITHIUM CHLORIDE WATER SOLUTION FOLLOWED BY ADIABATIC HUMIDIFICA THE ABSORBING SOLUTION IS REGENERATED BY MEANS OF A CONVENTIONAL HEAT PUMP WHOSE HEAT SOURCE IS THE SOLUTION ITSELF. B) HOT AIR FOR DRYING PURPOSES IS OBTAINED WITH A HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY HEAT PUMP. THE SAME RESULT CAN BE ACHIEVED IF DEHUMIDIFICATION IS ACCOMPLISHED BY MEANS OF LITHIUM CHLORIDE WATER SOLUTION: IN THIS CASE ALSO, A HEAT PUMP IS USED, FOR THE REGENERATION OF THE ABSORBING SOLUTION AND IT SUPPLIES THE DRY AIR WITH SOME OF THE THERMAL ENERGY REQUIRED FOR HEATING. ACCORDING TO THE AUTHORS' CALCULATIONS, THE INNOVATIVE PROCESSES DESCRIBED SHOW AN ENERGY SAVING OF UP TO 30% FOR CASE A AND 50% FOR CASE B. E. F.
