Air quality and system efficiency: development and applications of fresh air units with integral thermodynamic energy recovery.

Qualità dell'aria ed efficienza degli impianti: sviluppi applicativi dai sistemi di rinnovo a recupero termodinamico.

Author(s) : CARANO C.

Summary

Modern buildings need fresh air to dilute pollutants, remove unfavourable smell and comply with standards and laws. Nowadays, fresh air cannot be split from the temperature and humidity management by HVAC systems. It means additional air treatment, more sophisticated plant design and furthermore it affects the yearly energy consumption. In the thermodynamic recovery systems, exhaust air is the energy source to high efficiency heat pumps, generating either heating or cooling capacity. The paper describes the operating principles and application in different plant design solutions, then compares the total energy saving that can be allowed.
