Air quality in the breathing zone in rooms with displacement flow.

Author(s) : KRUHNE H., FITZNER K.

Summary

If a room is ventilated by displacement flow, one central question is whether the air quality in the breathing zone of a person is influenced by the thermal plume or not, when the pollution sources are combined with the heat sources. The assumption is, that the thermal plume brings clean air into the breathing zone and the concentration of contaminants must be lower than the concentration in the room in the same height. To investigate this, experiments were conducted in a test room of the Hermann Rietschel Institute. If a cooling ceiling is used additionally to the displacement ventilation, an improvement of the air quality in the breathing zone takes place until the fractional cooling capacity of the ceiling reaches 60% of the entire cooling load.
