Summary

THE CALCULATED RESULTS OF BRAKE HORSEPOWER BY USING CONVENTIONAL THERMODYNAMIC METHODS ARE USUALLY MUCH LOWER (SOMETIMES UP TO 40%) THAN THE VALUES MEASURED IN THE EXPERIMENTS. AN ANALYSIS HAS BEEN MADE TO CLARIFY THE REASONS FOR THIS UNACCEPTABLE DEVIATION. ON THE BASIS OF A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF EXPERIMENTAL DATA FROM EXISTING COMPRESSORS, EMPIRICAL FORMULAE FOR CALCULATING THE MEAN RELATIVE SUCTION AND DISCHARGE PRESSURE LOSSES AND THE EMPIRICAL DATA FOR MEAN FRICTION PRESSURE WERE OBTAINED, THUS GIVING BETTER CONFORMITY OF THE CALCULATED INDICATED AND BRAKE HORSEPOWER WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS.
