Summary

CYCLES BY PENNINGTON AND DUNKLE HAVE BEEN PROPOSED FOR UTILIZING SOLAR OR WASTE HEAT AS AN ENERGY SOURCE FOR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS. BOTH INCORPORATE REGENERATIVE DEHUMIDIFIERS WHICH DRY THE SUPPLY AIR AFTER REGENERATING THE DESICCANT USING SOME HEAT SOURCE. ADDITIONAL HEAT EXCHANGERS AND EVAPORATIVE COOLERS ARE ALSO REQUIRED. THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF SUCH CYCLES SHOWS THAT THEY ARE QUITE SENSITIVE TO THE INLET WET BULB TEMPERATURE AND THE INDIVIDUAL EFFECTIVITIES OF THE COMPONENTS USED.
