Summary
Rule-based fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) algorithms are developed and validated by carrying out experiments in a green building HVAC system. Energy balance equations were used to develop analytical algorithms to detect a faulty component. Experiments were conducted on a variable air volume air handling unit. To simulate artificial temperature sensor faults, a variable resistance device was applied to the temperature sensor. In the experiments conducted under summer conditions, the rule based FDD algorithms successfully isolated the faulty sensor in the air handling unit.
