Summary

Like a well-known Vuilleumier Process, the Duplex-Ericsson Process is an integrated, regenerative gas-cycle process which can be applied in constructing thermal driven heat pumps or refrigerating systems. Its advantages include a high compression efficiency and easily regulated operation in heat pumps. The experimental prototype described has as a special feature a transmission-less, free-swinging displacement piston, which is responsive to changes in pressure within the process. The use of this component makes possible significant economies in the weight and production costs of regenerative thermal devices.
