Summary

CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE ON CAPACITY CONTROL OF REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS. DESCRIBES AN EXPERIMENTAL RIG AND AN ANALYTICAL MODEL DEVELOPED SIMULTANEOUSLY TO STUDY THE BEHAVIOUR OF A LIQUID CHILLING SYSTEM OF A TYPE WIDELY USED IN THE AIR CONDITIONING INDUSTRY. THE MODEL AND RIG ARE BEING USED TO INVESTIGATE THE INFLUENCE OF THE CONTROL SYSTEM ON SYSTEM TRANSIENTS, RELIABILITY AND ENERGY COSTS. PRELIMINARY RESULTS USING VARIABLE COMPRESSOR SPEED TO IMPLEMENT CAPACITY CHANGES SHOW SIGNIFICANT ENERGY SAVINGS.
