Analysis of various ammonia defrosting systems.

Number: pap. 1172

Author(s) : VESTERGAARD N. P., MIKHAILOV A.

Summary

This paper is focussing on various ammonia defrosting systems used in industrial applications. The analysis is based on measurements carried out on a full scale ammonia installation equipped with two different types of defrosting systems (pressure control method and liquid control method), tested with different sequences. The installation has been equipped with pressure, temperature and mass flow measuring equipment. The purpose of this analysis is to documents the efficiency of the two systems tested with different sequences, and determines the key parameters for the most energy effective system. This paper will also discuss the pitfalls, which may be considered in order to ensure a safe and reliable system.
