Summary

The design of animal housing should take into account the animals' needs, outside conditions, working conditions and many interacting parameters. Ventilation is a crucial factor in regulating the environment, from both qualitative and quantitative points of view. Flow rates which are too fast or too slow can lead to high animal mortality. The choice of heating (central or local) is based on various criteria: characteristics of the building, other energy requirements, the desired type of energy, safety, changes in the animals' needs.
