Summary

IN THE EVENT OF FIRE, PRESSURE VESSELS ARE WEAKENED AND LIQUIDS CONTAINED WITHIN THEM ARE VAPOURISED WITH RISING PRESSURES. DEPRESSURISING VALVES MUST PASS A VARIABLE FLOW RATE AT A CHANGING PRESSURE DIFFERENCE TO DROP THE VESSEL PRESSURE TO A SAFE LEVEL. THE PROBLEM IS COMPLICATED WHEN THE CONTENTS ARE MIXTURES OF TWO CONSTITUENTS OF DIFFERENT VOLATILITY. METHODS OF NUMERICAL AND ANALYTICAL APPROACH ARE DESCRIBED AND A NUMERICAL EXAMPLE IS SHOWN.
