Summary

DUE TO THE HEAT LOSS AND RESULTING HIGH AIR TEMPERATURES WITHIN CABLE TUNNELS THE NUMBER OF CABLES WHICH CAN BE INSTALLED ARE LIMITED. FURTHERMORE THE INSTALLED CABLES AT THESE TEMPERATURES OPERATE AT LOW EFFICIENCY. IN ORDER TO LOWER THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE, A STUDY HAS BEEN UNDERTAKEN TO SIMULATE THE THERMAL BEHAVIOUR OF THE TUNNEL. RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THIS NUMERICAL MODEL ARE USED TO MOTIVATE ALTERNATIVE COOLING SYSTEMS.
