Assessing the energy efficiency of a low temperature refrigerating system with indirect methods.

Summary

Specification VDMA 24247-7 suggests different indirect methods for assessing the energy efficiency of refrigerating systems. In this contribution, monitoring results from a field site are used to compare the results of these indirect methods to a directly measured reference. The evaluation presented here also includes the latest changes of the revised version of VDMA 24247-7, which was published in September 2021. Generally, the results show that each of the tested indirect methods deliver values similar to the directly measured reference for the monitored system. With the collected data, the compressor model overestimates the cooling capacity and underestimates the electrical power. Therefore, the compressor model constantly leads to values for the Total Coefficient of Performance (TCOP) higher than the reference measurement. The refrigerating plant model also shows a very good agreement when the system is in operation. The valve model leads to the largest discrepancies from the reference measurement.
