Summary
This paper presents an axial-flow air-vapour compression refrigerating system for air conditioning cooled by circulating water and proves its feasibility through performance simulation. Using this new system may simplify air-conditioning systems and reduce the amount of initial investment. This new system has a smaller section of supply duct, two fewer heat exchangers, and one fewer water-circulating system. Saturated air with a temperature of about 0 °C is obtained by this system; therefore, the adoption of this system will make air-conditioned rooms more comfortable and cut down on the size of the supply duct section. Furthermore, there are no CFCs or HCFCs in this entirely new air-conditioning system concept, and the working medium is wet air from outdoors at no cost to the user. Simulations show that the new system's COP depends mainly on the turbine inlet temperature of the wet air and the efficiencies of the axial compressor and the turbine, and the COP varies with the wet-bulb temperature of the atmosphere. This system is very suitable for use in muggy areas, and it will still be efficient if cooled by circulating water.
