BP's Big Green Train: benchmarking next generation LNG plant designs.
Author(s) : SAWCHUK J., JONES R., DURR C., et al.
Summary
General conclusions drawn from the benchmarking effort were that Big, Green and Low Cost LNG trains were achievable with all of the LNG process technologies that were evaluated. The authors determined that all of the Licensor's LNG plant designs used in the benchmarking had the potential to be further optimized. CO2 emissions were strongly influenced by the optimization of the fit between the power plant output and load factor, and the LNG plant power requirements. One of the main activities of the BGT project was to evaluate a large range of refrigeration driver-compressor options. The various LNG plant designs with the different refrigeration driver-compressor configurations were then ranked based on metrics including life cycle costs, capital cost per tonne of LNG, energy efficiency, plant availability and CO2 emissions. The BGT evaluation culminated with the selection of three distinct LNG plant designs that were studied in more detail.
