Summary

THE AA. STUDIED AN INSULATED BODY FOR REFRIGERATED VEHICLES BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF A MONOLITHIC SHELL CONSISTING OF A POLYURETHANE LAYER COATED BOTH FROM OUTSIDE AND INSIDE WITH A PRECISION-WOUND GLASS-FIBRE REINFORCED PLASTIC LINER. THE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS OF RECTANGULAR BODY WINDING APPLIED TO A MODEL AND TO A 12 M3 BODY, INSERTING HINGES AND FITTINGS, THE MECHANICAL TESTS OF SAMPLES FROM A GLASS-FIBRE REINFORCED PLASTIC LINER, THE THERMODYNAMIC TESTS (VAPOUR DIFFUSION THROUGH THE WALL, ROAD OPERATION TEST RESULTS AND AGEING AFTER 4 YEARS), ARE DESCRIBED. MERITS OF SUCH A BODY ARE: HIGH MECHANICAL STRENGTH, NO THERMAL BRIDGES, EASY SANITATION, REDUCED VENTILATION LOSSES, REDUCED TARE WEIGHT, INCREASED PAYLOAD AND NET VOLUME.
