Canada's ozone layer protection program.

Author(s) : REED J. W.

Summary

Substantial new funds have been provided through Canada's "Green Plan for a Healthy Environment" to expand scientific efforts to monitor and understand the changes occurring in the ozone layer and to expand the Canadian control program to phase out ozone-depleting substances even faster than called for in the Montreal Protocol. Indeed, Canada's domestic program is working because it has, up to mid-1992, already achieved a 58% reduction in CFC consumption. The paper describes how Canadians have made ozone protection a top priority and highlights what Canadians are doing in response to the threat of ozone loss.
