THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES A PACKAGED WATER-CHILLER EQUIPPED WITH AN OPEN DRIVE SCREW COMPRESSOR, OIL SEPARATOR, CONDENSER, LIQUID PRE-COOLER (ECONOMISER), EVAPORATOR AND HEAT EXCHANGER. COMPRESSOR CAPACITY IS CONTROLLED BY A SLIDING VALVE SYSTEM ELECTRONICALLY OPERATED BY PI CONTROL USING CHILLED WATER TEMPERATURE OR, FOR A HEAT PUMP, CONDENSER WATER TEMPERATURE AS THE CONTROL SENSE. THE EXPANSION VALVE IS ELECTRIC MOTOR DRIVEN VIA ELECTRONIC CONTROL SENSING EVAPORATION PRESSURE, CHILLED WATER TEMPERATURE AND SUCTION VAPOUR TEMPERATURE.
