Summary

WITH THE ADVENT OF CONTAINERIZED TRANSPORT SERVICES IN JAPAN IT HAS BEEN FEASIBLE TO CARRY VARIOUS KINDS OF REFRIGERATED CARGO BY OCEAN VESSELS UTILIZING INTERMODAL REFRIGERATED CONTAINERS. THIS REPORT DESCRIBES REFRIGERATED CONTAINERS AND HOW THEY ARE LOADED INTO CONTAINER VESSELS ON WORLDWIDE SERVICE AS WELL AS DAMAGE PREVENTION, SURVEILLANCE AND MONITORING OF TEMPERATURES ON BOARD AND AT A CONTAINER TERMINAL. TYPICAL EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN OF DAMAGE DURING TRANSPORTATION AND THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF REFRIGERATING SYSTEMS.
