Summary

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN A MAN AND A MACHINE IS A CRITICAL LINK IN A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM FOR PROCESS SUPERVISION. CONTROL AND MONITORING LANGUAGES CAN BE A VALID SOLUTION AS THEY PROMOTE A BETTER COORDINATION OF ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS. THIS PAPER EXPLAINS THE PRINCIPLES UPON WHICH A CONTROL AND MONITORING LANGUAGE SHOULD BE BASED, IE A LANGUAGE ABLE TO MINIMIZE THE BARRIERS WHICH, IN OTHER LANGUAGES, INTERPOSE BETWEEN THE OPERATOR AND THE SYSTEM.
