Summary
Vapor-injection compressor is one of the most used compressor technology in refrigeration systems and heat pumps working at large differences between evaporating and condensing temperatures. Up to now, there are no published standards for the characterization of this kind of compressors. Generally, manufacturers characterize single-stage compressors based on the standard UNE-EN 13771-1, which defines several procedures for testing compressors and provides methods for measuring the mass flow rate and the compressor consumption. Within these procedures, calorimetric benches are widely used to characterize compressors. However, calorimetric benches cannot be used directly to characterize vapor-injection compressors, since the refrigerant conditions at the injection port are defined by two additional intermediate conditions, the injecting temperature and the intermediate pressure. These intermediate conditions depend critically on the way in which the refrigerant injection is performed (economizer, flash tank, liquid injection, etc.) Consequently, the characterization process becomes more complex. In this paper, a methodology for characterization vapor-injection compressors is proposed. The methodology allows measurement vapor-injection compressors in a typical calorimetric bench, to which minor modifications are made in order to incorporate the injection line. In addition, the proposed methodology was applied in a vapor-injection scroll compressor (of 17.1 m3/h) using R407C as refrigerant, and the measurement results of a working point are presented.
