Type of article: Article
Summary
LONG TERM PRESERVATION OF CORNEAS BY FREEZING IS A MAJOR GOAL IN EYE BANKING BECAUSE CRYOPRESERVATION OFFERS SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGES FOR THE QUALITY OF THE ORGAN. STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT SOME OF THE CRYOPRESERVATION PROCEDURES USED ARE INADEQUATE FOR MAINTAINING THE INTEGRITY OF THE CORNEAL ENDOTHELIUM. THIS ARTICLE REPORTS ON CURRENT RESEARCH BEING DEVELOPED TO IMPROVE CORNEAL CRYOPRESERVATION.
