Author(s) : PURTELL R. F.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE ECONOMIC BALANCE BETWEEN ABSORPTION CHILLERS DRIVEN BY WASTE HEAT FROM ENGINE DRIVEN ELECTRICITY GENERATION, AND MECHANICAL CHILLERS POWERED FROM SIMILAR GENERATORS. IN BOTH CASES IT IS ASSUMED THAT A HEAT OUTPUT IS ALSO DESIRED. IN GENERAL THE RESULTS VEER AWAY FROM THE USE OF ABSORPTION, BUT IT IS ESSENTIAL TO CONSIDER ALL ENERGY REQUIREMENTS, SOURCES AND VALUES BEFORE MAKING A DECISION. IN MANY CASES THE ADDITION OF THERMAL STORAGE IS DESIRABLE. D.W.H.
