Cold air refrigeration machine with mechanical, thermal and material regeneration.

Author(s) : HENATSCH A., ZELLER P.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

In the light of recent restrictions on chlorinated fluorocarbons as refrigerants, the potential of cold air refrigeration machines is re-examined. Technical, energy and operational aspects of the machines are investigated, and the following factors are analysed: the irreversible anti-clockwise Joule process, a modified Joule-Ericsson process, and the effects of thermodynamic regeneration. Using a thermodynamic computation model a fairly realistic picture of the energy behaviour is established. If this is confirmed experimentally a broader field of application may be opened up for these machines.
