Combustion turbine inlet air cooling using thermal storage and direct-contact sprays.

Author(s) : REINDL D. T.

Summary

To date, only few utility-scale applications of thermal storage-based combustion turbine inlet air cooling systems have been installed and are operational. The utility-scale installations of the technology use finned-type closed loop chilled water coils for cooling the inlet air. The coils tend to be very large and costly. The paper identifies options that can reduce the cost of this system component (direct-contact spray cooling system).
