EPRI International Conference on sustainable thermal energy storage (TES). Conference Proceedings.

Date: 1900.01.01

Summary

These proceedings contain 41 papers presented at this conference, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, August 7-9, 1996. Successful TES applications discussed in the papers include district and campus cooling systems (which are often superior to large central cooling systems which have no flexibility to meet peak cooling loads). There are only a few international installations of TES and passive storage to industrial uses; however, the economics of TES installations indicate that this is a rapidly-developing and ultimately sustainable TES market. These international industrial applications include food processing (the application of cool storage in dairy and milk has a long history, but new food applications include the storage of fruits and vegetables), warehousing, supermarkets, load levelling, mining, and power generation (i.e. turbine inlet cooling). Some of the papers will be abstracted in a future issue of the IIR Bulletin.
