Summary

This paper presents an overview of the evaluation of low-cost, commercially available bismuth telluride Peltier plates for re-purposing to be used where traditional heat flux transducers are used to measure thermal performance of building elements and/or thermal insulation. Using standard calibration and evaluation procedures, it is possible to show that the devices can be calibrated and used to perform in-situ thermal performance measurements of building elements and systems, with the potential to show that building elements comply with any relevant building code energy-efficiency requirements.
