This short course was held in conjunction with the 1998 International Compressor Engineering Conference, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA, and was organised by the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories, School of Mechanical Engineering. Section listings were: lubrication fundamentals; compressor design and testing; compressor lubricants and working fluids; friction and vibration. Some contributions will be abstracted in a future issue of the IIR Bulletin.
