Compressors: head start on the electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC).
Author(s) : HALL A.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The EMC directives have big implications for compressor starting motors. The solution in many cases could be electronic motor starting, referred to as soft starting. When the motor is first switched on the voltage applied to the motor is only approximatively 40% of the full supply voltage. Over a period of a few seconds this voltage is then swoothly increased to full supply voltage.
