THE MANUFACTURE OF COILS FOR MAGNETIC SEPARATORS CAN BE DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: SOME PARAMETERS OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD ARE KNOWN AND THE OPTIMUM SHAPE OF COILS SHOULD BE SOUGHT AFTER. SUPERCONDUCTING COILS ARE DIFFICULT TO MANUFACTURE AS SOME SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS HAVE TO BE RESPECTED. THE AUTHOR PRESENTS A DIRECT METHOD FOR CALCULATING COILS WHICH AVOIDS CONVENTIONAL ITERATIVE CALCULATIONS AND AT THE SAME TIME MEETS SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS.
