Summary

FOR ECONOMIC REASONS, HOUSEHOLD DUAL-TEMPERATURE REFRIGERATORS GENERALLY INCLUDE A SINGLE COMPRESSOR AND TWO EVAPORATORS, ONE IN EACH COMPARTMENT, IN SERIES, WITH THE CONTROL SYSTEM IN THE REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT. THE UNITS BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY ACCORDING TO AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND ONE MUST SET THE DISTRIBUTION OF REFRIGERATING CAPACITY BETWEEN THE TWO COMPARTMENTS, 278 AND 255 K (5 AND -8 DEG C), FOR A GIVEN VALUE OF AMBIENT TEMPERATURE, 289 OR 305 K (16 OR 32 DEG C). IT IS THEN IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE THE SAME HEAT BALANCE, 278/255 K, BOTH AT 289 AND 305 K AND COMPENSATION SYSTEMSARE USED: COMPENSATION RESISTANCE, REVERSE OR SEMIREVERSE INJECTION, CAPILLARY DUAL EXPANSION SYSTEM. THE ADVANTAGES OF THE LATTER DEVICE ARE GIVEN. J.L.
