Summary

A NEW NO-FROST, THREE-COMPARTMENT REFRIGERATOR-FREEZER DEVELOPED BY SOVIET SPECIALISTS IS DESCRIBED. THE UPPERMOST COMPARTMENT IS A FREEZER AT 255 K (-18 DEG C), THE MIDDLE ONE IS A REFRIGERATOR AT 273 TO 278 K (0 TO 5 DEG C), AND THE BOTTOM ONE IS A VEGETABLE AND FRUIT STORAGE BIN AT 278 TO 283 K (5 TO 10 DEG C). THE LATTER TWO ARE SEPARATED BY A REMOVABLE COVER, WHICH ALLOWS THE SIZE OF THE REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT TO BE 50 DM3 LARGER, AS HEAT EXCHANGE IS DONE THROUGH NATURAL CONVECTION AND THE NUMBER OF AIR DUCTS IS REDUCED. THE FRUIT AND VEGETABLES ALSO RAISE THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF THE REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT. OTHER PARTS OF THE REFRIGERATOR AND THE DEFROSTING PROCESS ARE DESCRIBED. M. C.
