Cooling-sustainability concepts to satisfy vital needs.

Author(s) : KRAEHLING H., MEURER C.

Summary

At European level IPP (Integrated Product Policy), EEE (Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and also the 6th Environmental Action Programme particularly address the need for integrated approaches, when sustainability policy is dealt with. Life-cycle-optimization of complete product systems by co-operation of the economic players involved is presented as a management concept which, at the same time, furthers innovations by efficiently using synergies and gives a sound basis for stakeholder dialogues. Hydrofluorocarbons for high-performance refrigeration technology are presented as an example of optimizing environmental performance, manufacturing and life cycle costs. In fact, responsible use of hydrofluorocarbons (which contribute to global warming when emitted) can even reduce the total climate impact of refrigeration systems.
