Summary
This article provides a background on principles, application and benefits of variable speed applied continuously in electric motors in the refrigeration industry, particularly for compressor use, but also where pumps and fans are operated. Precautions to be complied with when implementing variable speed systems are also described. Tables illustrate energy savings and other positive features of this technology in the field of automatic control such as motor protection, reduced ringing current during starting, etc.
