DURING MANY YEARS THERE WAS A CLOSE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE KAMERLINGH ONNES LABORATORY AT LEIDEN (THE NETHERLANDS) AND THE INSTITUTE OF LOW TEMPERATURES AND TECHNICAL PHYSICS OF THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY AT LEUVEN (BELGIUM). IN THE ARTICLE A SURVEY IS GIVEN OF THE RESEARCH DONE BY A. VAN ITTERBEEK IN THE FIELD OF LOW TEMPERATURES, MOLECULAR PHYSICS, THIN METAL LAYERS, SPEED OF SOUND IN LIQUIDS, VISCOSITY ETC DURING THE PERIOD OF 10 YEARS WHEN HE WAS COMBINING HIS ACTIVITIES IN BOTH LABORATORIES.
