Summary

Core specialty gases, for the purpose of this article, are defined as all specialty gases except those used in the electronics industry. The so-called "rare" gases, krypton, xenon and neon, are a significant part of the core specialty gas segment. The core specialty gas market, while growing only at 2 to 3% per year at present, due to the flat US economy, is projected to grow at 5 to 6% per year over the next 5 years thanks to the higher growth of the industries they serve and an economy that is expected to improve. This is a few percentage points higher than the US economy is projected to grow over the same period.
