Summary

FROM THE EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS A RECOMMENDED SET OF CONSISTENT MEASURED THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES WAS SELECTED FOR METHANE. THE COEFFICIENTS OF AN EQUATION OF STATE IN THE FORM OF BENDER'S EQUATION WERE FITTED TO THESE SELECTED VALUES. THIS NEW EQUATION CALCULATES THE THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF METHANE WITH HIGH ACCURACY. FOR SOME PURPOSES, HOWEVER, SIMPLE CORRELATIONS OF THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES ARE PREFERRED, WHICH CAN BE HANDLED MORE EASILY.
