COST EFFECTIVE MONITORING SYSTEMS.
Author(s) : PRICE J. A.
Summary
THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES AN EXERCISE IN IMPROVED ENERGY MANAGEMENT AT A LARGE AMMONIA REFRIGERATION FREEZING AND COLD STORAGE FACILITY. A COMPREHENSIVE MONITORING SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED AND INSTALLED. THE RESULTS SHOWED UP MANY OPERATING DISCREPANCIES DUE TO FAULTY CONTROL SETTINGS AND POOR MAINTENANCE. IT ALSO ENABLED A MOVE TOWARDS ENERGY SAVINGS BY DELIBERATE REMOVAL OF ENERGY USAGE FROM PEAK LOAD TIMES, WITH A SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE IN THE PEAK DEMAND TARIFF CHARGE. SAVINGS IN ELECTRICITY CHARGES WERE MADE EVEN THOUGH THE PLANT CAPACITY WAS INCRED THE PAPER SUMMARISES POINTS FOR CONSIDERATION WHEN CHOOSING SUCH A MONITORING SYSTEM. D.W.H.
