Cryogenic vessels: heat transfer analysis of penetrations.

Summary

The thermal performance of a cryogenic vessel depends on the insulation system quality as well as the heat transferred by penetrations such as piping, supports, and bumpers. An energy balance for these structural members must account for variable properties, heat conduction, and thermal radiation. For specific values of the total heat leak to a tank, the conduction and radiation contributions to the total heat transfer are calculated and discussed.
