Limitation du courant avec des supraconducteurs.

Summary

Superconducting materials offer the unique possibility of limiting currents automatically thanks to their natural transition to a dissipative state above certain current densities. Superconducting fault-current limiters are a potential innovative devices for electric grids. Placed in various points of the grid they could make it more secure and reduce the constraints in the case of defects. The specifications, which differ according to the sites, are very important in terms of the material and the structure to be designed. Moreover, the limiter should operate in the case of any kind of defect, hence the equipment's indispensable self-protecting-system, operating thanks to a critical-current density threshold that must not be crossed.
