Challenges in superconducting digital circuits.

Author(s) : DUZER T. van

Summary

The focus of the paper is on 4 K realization of single-flux-quantum logic circuits, which offer the possibility of operation at speeds up to 100 GHz, significantly exceeding those available with semiconductor circuits. Challenges that must be met in the realization of large circuits of this type are reviewed. Major issues are circuit design, clock distribution, control of fabrication technology, high-rata-rate random-access memory, high-speed interface, bit-error-rate testing at several tens of gigahertz, magnetic flux suppression, packaging, and cooling.
