Summary

This work is focused on the design and construction of a small size solar cooling system, based on an adsorption chiller prototype developed at the CNR ITAE. The first phase of activity was aimed to the realization of the system model, which was developed in TRNSYS environment. In particular a new Fortran subroutine was implemented to simulate the adsorption chiller prototype. The model was used to carry out a parametric analysis to obtain the most appropriate size of each component of the system. Subsequently the optimized solar air-conditioning system was installed at CNR-ITAE for air conditioning of an office room. Several sensors were installed in order to measure the parameters (e.g. temperature, humidity, solar radiation) needed for the validation of the model results. So that the whole system will be monitored and analyzed for several months, both during winter and summer, to evaluate the overall yearly performance.
