Design of cryogenic cooling system for 21 T FT-ICR magnets.

Author(s) : CHOI Y. S., KIM D. L., LEE B. S., et al.

Summary

A new concept of cooling system for 21 T FT-ICR magnets is presented. The magnets will be built horizontally in order to accomplish the requirement of user friendliness and reliability, and the replenishment of liquid helium will not be necessary by a closed-loop cooling system. This paper describes the concept of cryogenic design for this unique system. The amount of cryogenic loads and required mass flow rate are estimated by a relevant analysis. The effects of the helium II volume and the gap of safety valve on the cool-down time and temperature rising during off-normal state are also discussed.
