Summary

THE ROLE OF THE CAPACITY CONTROL OF THE REFRIGERATION COMPRESSOR IN TERMS OF THE UTILISATION OF ENERGY, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION LIFE OF THE MACHINE IS DISCUSSED. THE ADVANTAGE OF THE VARIATION OF COMPRESSOR SPEED AS AGAINST CYLINDER DELIVERY VARIATION IS STRESSED. THIS GENERAL IMPROVEMENT LEADS TO THE INTRODUCTION OF SOLID STATE CONTROL CIRCUITS THAT, AMONGST OTHERS, PROVIDE A BETTER APPRECIATION OF THE WORKING CONDITIONS OF THE REFRIGERATING UNIT AND CLEARLY SHOW THE MAIN CAUSES OF FAULTY OPERATION OR BREAKDOWN. A NEW TREND IN THE DESIGN OF AIR-COOLED UNITS, ABLE TO REDUCE MAINTENANCE TIME, IS DISCUSSED.
