DESIGN OF THE COOLING SYSTEM FOR THE COMPACT IGNITION TOKAMAK (CIT) CENTRAL SOLENOID.

Author(s) : GESCHWINDT J. R., KYTOMAA H.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE LARGE EXPECTED TEMPERATURE RISES IN THE CIT CENTRAL SOLENOIDS MOTIVATED THIS GENERAL STUDY ON HOW TO MINIMIZE THE COOLING TIME OF LARGE ELECTROMAGNETS, IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN AN ACCEPTABLE OPERATING FREQUENCY. LIQUID NITROGEN WAS CHOSEN AS A COOLING FLUID, AND A COMPUTER PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED TO MODEL THE FLOW AND HEATTRANSFER OF TWO-PHASE NITROGEN IN COMPLEX FLOW CIRCUITS.
