Summary
Putting magnetic core materials in an electrical coil is not always very desirable as losses in the core materials degrade the performance of the coil. The degradation becomes worse at lower temperatures. The authors have found that this loss is further accentuated by excitation in the coil. They show that eddy-current loss as well as hysteresis comes into play and that, as expected, high-critical temperature superconducting materials are free from these effects.
