Summary

LITERATURE DATA ANDEXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OF STUDIES ON STRUCTU RAL AND METABOLIC ALTERATIONS IN FEMORAL HEAD ARTICULAR CARTILAGE AFTER LOCAL CRYOAPPLICATION ARE PRESENTED. LOW TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO INDUCE DESTRUCTIVE CHANGES IN CELLS AND CARTILAGE COMPONENTS. THE CHANGES WERE FOUND TO BE DUE TO ORIENTATION DISORDERING AND DISORGANIZATION OF PROTEOGLYCAN COMPLEXES. PROBLEMS OF BONE AND CARTILAGE REGENERATION AFTER CRYOAPPLICATION ARE CONSIDERED.
