Developed turbulence experiments around 4 K.

Summary

The advantages of the use of cryotemperatures for turbulence experiments are discussed in the framework of two experiments in gaseous helium 4: jet flow and Rayleigh-Bénard convection. Recent results are presented: transition between two types of turbulence in a jet, first tests of the Rayleigh-Bénard cell. The present solutions of the experimental challenges are also described together with an application to cryogenic space propulsion operation.
